Match Point & In America

Went to the cinema yesterday to watch Match Point. At first I didn't really know what to think of it, but as time went on suspense grew and although the ending was rather depressing, I think it is a great movie!

The day before I saw In America on dvd. It was not quite what I had expected but it turned out to be a beautiful story about an Irish family that has lost a child and decide to start a new life in America.

Train!

Right now I am listening to Frank Sinatra. Lately I have been listening a lot to 'old' music, like Dusty Springfield, Hank Williams, The Carpenters, Kris Kristofferson, Tim Hardin, Roy Orbison and Flying Burrito Brothers. And of course, Johnny Cash.

Furthermore, I have heard a lot of the new Train record. I had to download it, because it's still not released in my country. That is so annoying! That always happens with the new records of my favorite artists. ;-(
Like Drops of Jupiter and My Private Nation it takes a long time to grow upon me, but I'm starting to like it more every time I listen to it. I hope they release it soon so I can get me a legal copy.

Superb actors

Last week I saw two movies that were great thanx to the superb acting of it's main characters. Walk the line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon and Bonnie and Clyde with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. I hope the first two will both win an Oscar this year. They really should.

Started reading Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko.

Listening to Josh Rouse now and will soon switch to the new Train record that I downloaded since it is not yet released here...

The Natural

Finished Mazel and liked it a lot. Started in a novel by Bernard Malamud, that already has me in it's grip. I really loved two of his other books that I have read: The Fixer and The Assistant. It seems that The Natural might be as good as those.

Music I'm listening to right now: The Complete Goldwax Singles by James Carr.

Latest rediscovery: Shawn Mullins.
