Brick

I see it's been some days since I lasted posted here something. I guess I must have been too busy doing other things. One of these things was going to the cinema to watch this fascinating movie called Brick. A dark hard boiled detective set on a modern highschool. It featered this beautiful actress called Nora Zehetner.
Today I bought three new movies on dvd: Everything Is Illuminated, Amelie and Kingdom Of Heaven. Will watch one of them tonight.
I also bought Without You I'm Nothing by Placebo that was recommended to me by a friend.

Romeo + Juliet

Yesterday I watched Romeo + Juliet. What can I say about it? I liked the way they treated the old play, but it was really weird to hear those people talk that old fashioned. However, I really loved Claire Danes as Juliet.

Today I will try to start writing again. The day started out nice with a little bit of rain and now the sun is shining again. Makes me wonder whether I should write all afternoon, or enjoy some of the weather, before autumn really gets going...

The New World

Just watched The New World. A fascinating movie, though I'm not sure yet what to think about it... Have to write a review tomorrow.

New John Mayer cd!

Finally, finally, passed my deadlines and finished the project in Leeuwarden, so from this weekend on I will have time to work on my novel again!
And I will have great music to listen to while writing, because today I downloaded the new John Mayer cd! I'm going to review it soon, but I couldn't wait for the promo... It sounds great!
And to celebrate all this I'm going to the graduation party of one of my best friends tonight! ;-)

I'm going to be a poet!

Yes, I'm going to be a poet! When I was in The Hague to see Nick Cave I visited my favorite book store, the American Book Center, and bought myself a Magnetic Poetry Kit! The love edition, so I will become a romantic poetry. So far, I haven't had time to start, but this weekend my refrigerator will find a new poem on it's door...

Oh, and Opaline by Dishwalla has arrived as well! Haven't had time to listen to that either, because I had to write loads of reviews, but will listen to it soon! And at least I have had the time to admire the beautiful cover. ;-)

Nick Cave live!

Me and a friend went to Nick Cave solo in The Hague yesterday and had a fantastic evening! I had never seen him before, but he turned out to be a funny entertainer and a remarkable artist. I thought he would play an acoustic show, but that turned out to be not true, as I quickly found out when the drummer nearly destroyed my ears in the first song. ;-)
As the evening progressed I heard a lot of great songs, some in different arrangements. I was most impressed by his radically different versions of The Weeping Song and The Mercy Seat. It was not a cheap concert, but it was definitely worth the money!

Lyrics of the day

Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you're not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Cuz you were the same as me
But on your knees

A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one?
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon that was your womb

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer?

You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
What's the things they never showed you
That swallow the light from the sun inside your room, yeah

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Always someone there

And there's no time left for losin'
When you stand they fall, yeah

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
All because I'm
Comin' down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on and I'll bring you home and
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me

Benny & Joon

Lovely movie, lovely story. I think Johnny Depp has become my favorite male actor...

The Wicker Man

Went to The Wicker Man with a friend yesterday. We were supposed to go to Zwartboek, but that one was sold out. Although it was not a brilliant movie it had a enough suspense to be entertaining till the very end. Usually I'm not a big fan of these kind of movies, but I liked the theme (an ancient pagan religion still practised on a remote island)of this one.

Today I went on a shopping spree. I bought some dvd's (Romeo & Juliet, Ray, Benny & Joon) and some books (Extremely loud & Incredibly Close, Go Ask Alice, a book of stories by Roald Dahl and The Oxford Guide To The English Language).

Spent a very lovely afternoon in the park, listening to Guster (that cd turned out to be exellent park music) and Camera Obscura.

And now I'm going to watch another movie!

Waiting in the sun

Summer is back! Too bad I have to work all week and it gets dark early. Today me and my collegue waited for 45 minutes for someone to pick up some packages. He never came, but at least I got to enjoy a great deal of the beautiful weather in the meantime. ;-)

Listening to Josh Rouse now. I guess I should have bought this one earlier, because it is as good as his other records.

Blue sky green tree

Another picture I took at my parent's place. As you can see, I love to take pictures of the sky and of trees. ;-)
I wish I could have taken pictures of the sun this morning when I was travelling to work. I have never seen the sun so beautiful! It was rising through the mist that hung over the fields and forests...

Listening to the new Jude now and loving it very, very much! It's still getting better every time I hear it.

Sunshine

Spending a relaxes Sunday afternoon at my parent's place, canooing, taking pictures with my digital camera, listening to music, probably some reading later on... Life is sweet.

Yesterday I bought me some new cd's, before celebrating my mum's birthday at a campsite, which was nice too.

Camera Obscura - Underachievers please try harder
Josh Rouse - Home
The Decemberists - Picaresque
The Twilight Singers - Blackberry belle

Now I'm going outside again to enjoy some more sunshine. ;-)

Clouds

Again I realised how beautiful my country is. After returning from a long stay in America two years ago I thought it was too flat and ugly, but now I have really come to like it again, especially on a day like today when I spent almost four hours in trains. I also found out that I love to take pictures of the countryside and the sky. Here's another one. ;-)

I just love to lie on the grass and look up at the clouds. This August/September the Dutch clouds seem to be even more beautiful.

Dancing the night away

Wow, I finally found a club that I really like in my hometown! Went there last night after the birthday to dance to cool indie music and great oldies and had a great time! I wish I could have stayed longer. Maybe next time. Too bad, I have a slight headache now, but that doesn't really matter because it's raining outside anyway, so I'm just going to listen to music and read. ;-) And in the afternoon I will be off to my parent's place!

Rob Roy

Started reading another classic novel, this time Rob Roy by Sir Walter Scott that has been standing on my shelf for quite some time now. Can't really say anything about it yet. Spent a nice day going into town, reading comic books (!) that I had bought in town, listening to music and cooking a lovely diner with beans, paprika and shrimp.

And later tonight I will go a pub to celebrate a friend's birthday!

New music

Very happy to find the new Shawn Colvin record and Joe Firstman's Live At The Sandbox in my mailbox today, after an exciting, but also very tiring week. Look forward to listening to them these weekend!

And now I'm going to bed to finish the wonderful Secret Garden!
